Favas Contadas
Acessible board game
2025This project explores the principles of cybertext through the design of a narrative card game that encourages players to actively navigate and reconstruct a non-linear text. Inspired by the Oblique Strategies cards by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt, the game was conceived to reward exploration, prompting players to experience every narrative pathway rather than following a single predetermined route.
The project instead adopted a range of inclusive design strategies, including tactile game tokens with distinct surface textures, colour-independent visual communication to accommodate colour-blind players, and a QR code linking to an audio version of the narrative, game rules, and supporting content.
Throughout the development process, the project was iteratively tested with friends, family, and peers, allowing the mechanics and rule set to evolve through feedback. Although the game was not co-designed with visually impaired participants, the project represents an exploration of how inclusive thinking can inform interaction design. Ultimately, it demonstrates how accessibility can function not as a constraint, but as a catalyst for more thoughtful, engaging, and meaningful design solutions while reinforcing the participatory nature of cybertext.
